Our Privacy Policy

EDAM aims to contribute to the policy making process within and outside Turkey by producing and disseminating research on the policy areas that are shaping Turkey’s position within the emerging global order. In addition to conducting research in these fields, EDAM organizes conferences and roundtable meetings. Additionally, EDAM cooperates with numerous domestic and international to conduct joint-research and publications. Here at EDAM we take your privacy seriously and are committed to ensuring that it is protected. Our privacy policy sets out why and how we use and protect your personal information. We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. We will notify you of any substantial changes to the policy.

What does this Privacy Policy cover?

This policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you or that you provide to us is collected and processed by us, whether online (through “our site”: www.edam.org.tr), via telephone, email, in letters, through the exchange of business cards or in any other correspondence or from third parties.

Does our privacy policy include a lawful basis to explain why we need to process personal information?

Article 6(1) of the GDPR sets out the conditions the must be met for the processing of personal data to be lawful. The conditions, which EDAM adheres to, are:

(a) Consent: The data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specific purposes.

(b) Contract: Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract.

The types of personal information we hold?

We receive and store any information you enter on our website or provide to us in any other way. The types of Personal Information collected include your full name, email address, phone number, postal addresses and affiliation, which we use to reach you with our last bulletins and newsletters. You can choose not to provide us with certain information.

The sources of that information?

We may store Personal Data that you choose to send to us or provide to us, for example, on our “Contact Us” and “Sign up for newsletters” forms, and if you register to participate in our events. If you contact us through our website, we will keep a record of our correspondence.

Edam does not collect usage data but relies on the google service. When you visit edam.org.tr, google collects certain data related to your device, such as your device’s IP address, referring website, what pages your device visited, and the time that your device visited our website. We won’t use cookies to collect personally identifiable information about you. However, if you want to restrict or block the cookies which are set by this platform you can do it through your browser settings, or you may also choose to install Google Analytics’ opt-out browser add-on.

Cookies and other technologies are to ensure everyone who uses our website has the best possible experience. A cookie is a small data file that is placed on your computer or other device to allow a platform to recognise you as a user when you return using the same device and web browser, either for the duration of your visit (using a ‘session cookie’) or for repeated visits (a ‘persistent cookie’).

Who we share with that information?

Respecting Personal Data is an integral part of our institution. We neither rent nor sell your Personal Information to anyone. We only disclose your personal data to relevant partners e.g. organizational partners; hotels, logistics companies in case you are invited or willing to participate in our events. We only share your contact information to relevant partners to ensure your participation for the set events. Again, we never disclose aggregate or anonymous information to a partner in a manner that would identify you personally.

Protection of EDAM and Others: we reserve the right to access, read, preserve, and disclose any data as necessary to comply with law or court order; enforce or apply our agreements with you and other agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of EDAM, our employees, our users, or others.

Disclosures for National Security or Law Enforcement: under certain circumstances, we may be required to disclose your Personal Data in response to valid requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

What do we do with it?

The Personal Information you provide is used for such purposes as answering questions, notifying you of our bulletin updates, and communicating with you about our events and organizations.

We use the data we collect via our websites:

  • to administer our website, our events;
  • to improve our website to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
  • as part of our efforts to keep our website safe and

We may also use the data you send to us via our website and/or services, to communicate with you via email and, possibly, other means, regarding events, publications, blogs and newsletters we think may be of interest to you. The places where we keep personal information and the ways the data flows between them?

We are physically based in Turkey, therefore, the Data transferred from the European Economic Area (“EEA“) stored at, a destination outside the EEA. Where we use external companies to collect or process data on our behalf, it is also processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the provision of support services.

Is Personal Data about you secure?

We use appropriate technical, organizational and administrative security measures to protect any information we hold in our records from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. However, the transmission of information via the Internet is not completely secure. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may still compromise the security of user information.

When linking to another site or service you should read the privacy policy provided by that site or service. This Privacy Policy only governs information collected through our Services. This Privacy Policy addresses only the use and disclosure of information we collect from you. If you disclose your information to others, different rules may apply to their use or disclosure of the information you disclose to them.

How can you access and update your information?

We provide individuals with the opportunity to access, review, update, and delete any Personal Data we hold on them. You can send an email to  [email protected] for this purpose.

If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so. Please note that we may be required to retain and use your information if necessary to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes.

For your convenience, hyperlinks may be posted on the website that link to other websites (the “Linked Sites”). We are not responsible for, and this Privacy Policy does not apply to the privacy practices of any Linked Sites or of any companies that we do not own or control. Linked Sites may collect data in addition to that which we collect on the website. We do not endorse any of these Linked Sites, the services or products described or offered on such Linked Sites, or any of the content contained on the Linked Sites. Will EDAM change this Privacy Policy?

We are constantly improving our website and services, so we may need to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will alert you to material changes by placing a notice on our website and/or by sending you an email (if you have registered your e-mail details with us) when we are required to do so by applicable law.
